Engagement sessions are some of my most favorite things to shoot. I love getting to know couples on a one-on-one level, especially if I'm going to be shooting their wedding. All engagement sessions are unique in their own way. Some couples are more touchy, some more reserved, some want a more traditional look, others want something more unconventional—all which impacts the way their engagement photos will look. I always try to encourage authenticity. If you hate museums, and you and your partner have never once been to a museum together, maybe don't have that be your session location. If you and your partner are constantly goofing around and laughing, have your photos reflect that!
Nick and Tien embodied an authentic engagement session. When Tien reached out to me earlier this month, she said she wanted "to capture us and who we are as a couple. We enjoy coffee, beer, and whiskey, and try to do that on Saturday afternoons." So last Saturday we met up at Deep Ellum at Mokah Coffee and proceeded to have the most fun, laid back session I've done in a while.

After coffee we hit up Deep Ellum Brewing Company where Tien crushed Nick in Connect Four (sorry Nick). There was an awesome band playing outside, it was a really fantastic atmosphere and I think we could have stayed there for hours chatting.

After the beers we needed something a little stronger (and by we, I mean not me, on the clock after all!), so made our way to the Armoury, a super cool speakeasy style bar. Nick said they had the best Old Fashioned he'd ever had, so you betcha I'll be back.

So no matter what your scene is, be it an ice cream parlor, an arcade or a beautiful park, choose a location that fits you. The photos will be genuine and capture what makes your relationship so special. And to Tien and Nick, thank you so much for hanging out with me and suggesting such a cool shoot. I can't wait to do it again.
Until next time,
Cheers,
Leah
