This wedding was a little different than all my others because I knew the bride and groom (very well!) The bride is my younger cousin Mckinlee. We grew up having Thanksgivings and Christmas together, going to the Riverwalk, watching old VHS at my grandmas house. It was so surreal to see her get married.
About 15 years ago, give or take, she told me she would never get married (boys were gross!) So like any good lawyers daughter I wrote up a totally legit, totally legally binding contract on a piece of scrap paper. It said, "I Mckinlee, won't get married, and if I do I'll pay Leah $100". (Which was big bucks to a 10 year old.) Hey Mckinlee, I take cash and all major forms of credit card! ;-)
But in all seriousness, it was so amazing seeing how much she was loved and supported by Seth throughout their special day. I can tell they are not only partners but best friends. And I was so humbled that she asked me to photograph her wedding.
So she might have lost that bet from 15ish years ago, but seeing the smile on her face and the love between her and Seth, and the absolutely fantastic and welcoming family she just became a part of— I think she definitely hit the jackpot. And I'd say that's a win-win!
